Minuteman Marketing Solutions is a subsidiary of Intihar Holding Company which began business operations in 1998. Jim Intihar, Founder and President has been active in sales and marketing his entire career. “People often make the mistake of lumping sales and marketing together. They are two distinctly different pieces of the puzzle that make up the selling process, without one the other doesn’t exist.” Starting out in the printing business 10 years it was quickly understood that customers were looking for more. They wanted to be able to communicate with a higher level of relevance to their members, current customers or potential customers. This began a sea change in our business. Instead of being order takers we began the transition to communication consultants.
While Market share is important, the primary focus should be aiming for a larger share of your customer’s business, not a share of the market. Most companies have long term, satisfied customers and only handle a fraction of their total business. We have averaged double digit growth through the dot com bubble bursting and the attacks of 9/11. We did this because we became students of marketing and weren’t afraid to try to new ways to attract more customers, and then get more of their business. We saw a lot of small businesses begin to shrink in size and eventually go out of business during that period. Why did our business thrive through this period where others failed? The answer is simple while we invested more in sales staff and marketing solutions others were cutting back drastically in these areas. While this made the P/L look better for the short run it hastened the pace at which these companies went out of business in the longer term.
